Egypt has no trade agreement with India. It buys Indian meat, cotton yarn, petroleum products, chemicals, vehicles and parts, spices and tea. Its import system is strict: the importer must pre-register every shipment on the Advance Cargo Information (ACI) system, and the exporter must send documents electronically before loading. Dollar shortages have delayed payments at times.

What it buys from India

  • Buffalo meat and other food
  • Cotton yarn and textiles
  • Petroleum products and chemicals
  • Vehicles, auto parts, machinery, spices and tea

Import rules on their side

  • Advance Cargo Information (ACI): the Egyptian importer gets an ACID number on the Nafeza platform, and the exporter must register on the approved electronic platform (CargoX) to send the invoice and documents before shipping.
  • Factories making certain consumer goods (for example textiles, furniture, toys, cosmetics and some foods) must be registered with GOEIC before their goods can be imported.
  • Food is controlled by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA); labels must include Arabic.

Practical tips

  • Do not load until the importer gives you the ACID number — goods shipped without it can be refused entry.
  • Use an LC confirmed by an Indian or international bank, and check ECGC cover for Egypt.
  • Food Africa in Cairo is a useful fair for food exporters.
